2016 Warragul Renault Annual Tournament

A week like this cannot be a success without the support of many people.  A big thank you to our naming rights sponsor, Warragul Renault, as to all our event sponsors throughout the week & to the Men’s & Ladies Committee’s for their efforts leading up to the events & during the week.

To our 104 guests ranging from Traralgon GC to RiversdaleGC , to Korumburra GC to Neangar Park GC & most importantly our 700+ members that competed throughout the week.  Without your participation, these events would not be what they are.

FRIDAY

This years Tournament week culminated with a Men’s & Ladies Team Stableford, which also incorporated an individual event for both as well as a Seniors Section for both Male & Female. Under threatening sky’s, 101 players took to the course with Neville Fawcett & Barry Cheesman returning the best scores for the day for the men with 42 points.  In the Ladies Section, Lyn Morrison returned the best score of 34. Thank you to Jeff Booth from Niagara Industries for his companies sponsorship on the day.  I;m sure after witnessing his products, some of us members could really use them at the end of a round of golf! THURSDAY

The Men’s 4BBB Stableford saw 41 pairs take to the course with a team from our naming rights Sponsors, Renault also having a hit in the nice conditions.  In a closely run field, Noel Wight & Geoffrey Thomas were victorious with 44pts on a countback.  In 2nd place we had Ron Magill & Any Ryan, 3rd Squizzy Taylor & Jim Morrison & 4th place Peter Earles & Dean Armstrong. WEDNESDAY

Well who can pick the Melbourne weather?  What an absolute glorious day greeted the ladies for their Stroke event.  We had 63 ladies vying for the Tournament Open Championship, with the eventual winner our current Club Champion Kerri Ahearn.  Kerri won by four shots over Pakenham GC visitor, Shirley Roberts, who is a past winner of this event.  Shirley managed to take home the best visitor score for the day. Thank you to our visitors from Churchill Monash, Sale, Drouin, Garfield, Pakenham, Midlands in supporting todays event. Thank you to Simone Herbel for her sponsorship of the days event & the Warragul On Course Golf Shop for their prizes on the day.  The last event for the  ladies will be on Friday in the Mystery Stableford. TUESDAY

After a heavy downfall the night before, the course held up well enough to allow carts and we saw 131 players take the course.  We had the pleasure once again of hosting 26 players for the Riversdale GC who commented just how good the course was improving year to year. MONDAY

On a pleasant morning we had 36 Pairs take to the fairways in the Fairview Village 4BBB Stableford event.  With guests from Mirboo Nth, Churchill Monash, Korumburra, Moe, Trafalgar, Drouin, Garfield & Cheltenham Golf Clubs, the scores were impressive from many of the teams. The winners in A Grade were a member / visitors  combination of Aija Owen & Sue Rose on 43 pts.  Runners Up were Heather Steenholdt & Debbie Corstorphin on 42 pts. Winners in B Grade were Sandy Heenan & Wendy Brown on 42 pts, two shots clear of visitors Jill White & Christine Gunn from Mirboo Nth on 40 pts. Thank you to Fairview Village for their continued sponsorship of this event in the tournament and to Alzena for sponsoring the Runners Up prizes.  The ladies were very appreciative. 39 Pairs Contested the Warragul Harvey Norman Mixed American Foursomes.  Some great scores were out on course with an Eagle 2 for John & Janine Williams on the 11th a highlight.  Some might say the Cusden’s birdie on 7 is one for the highlight reel! SATURDAY

Congratulations to young Lachlan Bainbridge of Drouin GC & Warragul CC on his victory in the 36 Hole Open Amateur event on Saturday.  With a great score of 144 (72,72) he was a clear winner ahead of Simon Mc Innes (Mirboo Nth GC) on 150.
