Local Rules Clarification

Local Rules Clarification

Members,
It has come to the attention of the Pro Shop staff that some temporary local rules may not be being adhered to, correct with how the Rules stipulate.
To help clarify, I bring to your attention certain rules:
Preferred Lies
“When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area.
There are two things that need clarification as we have been asked quite a lot since the Local Rule has been introduced.

  1. Preferred Lies can be taken on any fairway on the course – not the one you are currently playing.  eg. If you are playing the 2nd Hole, and you hit one out onto the 8th fairway, you are still entitled to relief.
  2. Fairway Height or Less – this is applicable to green surrounds and fairways.  Holes such as 2, 3 & 13 which have a “heightened” cut to prevent rolling of golf balls ARE NOT entitled to relief.  It must be on the “fairway cut” sections.

A reminder to that now in the Rules of Golf is the embedded ball.  Rule 16.3 gives relief for a ball embedded anywhere in the “general area” (the new term for “through the green”).
In regards to GUR, relief from these areas are COMPULSORY unless stipulated otherwise.  Nearest point of relief must be taken if Drop zones are not present.
As we head into the championship season, if members are unsure of the Rules, please check first before potentially subjecting yourself to a penalty.
Note: On the MiScore App, under “MENU” on the Top Right of Screen, there is a Local Rule link, which has all the Temporary and Permanent Local Rules to help you when on course.
