Gippsland BMW Pro Am

Gippsland BMW Pro Am

Well another Pro Am done & dusted….
Big thank you to all involved in putting on the best event possible.
To our Naming Rights Sponsor, Gippsland BMW, what can we say, this partnership is going from strength to strength and what you provide for all players on the day is phenomenal!

To all our other partnering sponsors, thank you also, without your contribution, the Professionals & amateurs cannot play in such an event.
Members & guests who played, we hope you all had a great day, learned a thing or 2, and can’t wait to get out on the course again with some new found knowledge or tips your professionals gave you.
To my staff, thanks for all your help on the day and leading up to the event. The long days, the crossing of T’s & dotting of I’s, certainly helps see the final outcome come to fruition.  Especially to Lee, who has helped put this event together with me and made it so much easier on the day.
Ground staff – AWESOME!! Course never looked better, never have I had so many positive comments from professionals playing.
Lastly, our member volunteers, days such as this can’t happen without the support and tireless efforts of you all. I can assure you, they don’t go un noticed, and looking back today, so many special little moments were because of you all and what you do for your club!!
Thank you all, here’s to 2021 & beyond!!
Heath

More Concrete Pathways

More Concrete Pathways

Works will commence shortly to construct more concrete pathways as part of the Clubs commitment to further improvements on the golf course.
At its January Board meeting the Board formally approved $26,664 to construct concrete pathways from the 14th green to both the men’s and ladies tees on the 15th.  Members will be aware of the priority, particularly in winter to address access pathways around the 14th green and 15th tees.
The Board also approved further funding of $14,472 to extend the existing concrete pathways off the 1st and 10th tees to avoid a repeat of the bog conditions experienced this winter at the point where the existing paths join the fairways.
Course Superintendent Nathan Eager plans to complete the concrete paths in March 2020, well ahead of next winter.  The Board wishes to acknowledge the work done by both Golf Committees in finalising the approvals and ensuring the best outcome is achieved for these important golf course upgrades.

Board approval for $100k short-game facility

Board approval for $100k short-game facility

At its January Board meeting the Board formally approved funding for the $100,000 short game facility.
Renowned golf course designer Mike Cocking has designed the short-game facility, which will prove to be a valuable asset in the Warragul Country Club’s objective to provide better facilities for its golf Members whilst complementing the Club’s commitment to improving its golf education and training options.
According to Mike, quality short-game areas have become an important part of a golf club’s practice facilities in recent times as the penny finally dropped that 80 per cent of golf shots are played from within 100 metres of the hole. “It is arguably far more valuable spending time practising all manner of chips, pitches, putts and bunker shots than it is grinding away on the driving range” Mike Cocking said.
Warragul Country Club’s short-game facility will be wedged between the second and third holes and maintenance entry road.
The advantage of introducing a short-game area is it can always double as a “19th hole” in the event a hole needs to be taken out of play for maintenance.
The green will be massive – around 550 to 600m2 – to allow for multiple uses.
The amount of short grass surrounding the green will allow for a variety of stances, lies and distances.
When completed, the additional hole will play to around 80 to 90 metres.
“It should still make for an interesting pitch shot, especially to a right pin over the large greenside bunker,” Cocking suggested.
Project Manager and Course Superintendent Nathan Eager confirms that work on the retainer walls will commence in March 2020 ahead of the major works being completed in Spring 2020.
