The Old Clubhouse Plaque

At 98 years of age and a golf member since 1965, Eric Barass is still a regular weekly golfer at the Warragul Country Club and as such he was the perfect choice to unveil an important historical marker that commemorates the history and significance of the Old Clubhouse.
On the 30 April 2021, Eric was joined by Gavin Ough and Life Members as the historical marker was unveiled along with many stories and great memories from times dating back to the late 1940s. The Club is delighted to be able dedicate this historical marker to an important part of the Club’s history and heritage.
Featuring a photo of the original Clubhouse, the plaque which has been kindly donated by Hillview Quarries, reads:
“This is the former site and photograph of the original Clubhouse. The Clubhouse was first built in 1947 and was extended and renovated many times up until its removal in 1995 when the new Clubhouse was built.”

Financial Update to Members

The following update on the Club’s 20/21 financial position is provided for the information of Club Members. This update is for the 8 months ending Feb 2021.

It is important to first outline the key issues that impact the result thus far.
1) As gaming operations did not resume until 7 November 2020, the financial results for the first four months of 20/21 were severely impacted by Covid restrictions.
2) The Club was in receipt of Job Keeper for 9 months to 28 March 2021. This has been critical to the Club’s strong financial results.
3) There was a 5-day lock down of the State in February 2021. Brisbane experienced similar only a few weeks ago. This is a reminder that we are not Covid free, and that the Club’s business needs to continue to be managed prudently and with caution. The Board is of the view that in terms of business operations, the Club has cut its cloth to suit the current environment and risks.
From a cash profit position for the 8 months of trading to end of Feb 2021, it was certainly a tale of two halves as indicated by the following graphs.

Important notes for Members to consider when reading this are.

1) The October result contains $283K of annual golf membership and sponsorship and if removed the result for Oct 2020 would be a cash loss of $37K.

2) In Feb 2021 the Club only traded for 23 days due to the 5-day Victorian lock down, which shut down all Club operations.
3) Although gaming resumed on 7 Nov 2020, November results were significantly impacted by 2 weeks of restrictions where no more than 10 players could be in the gaming room and time limits of 1.5hours were placed on players.
4) December sees the first full month of gaming operations (although only half the 80 EGMs allowed to be played) and you can see the significant impact it has on profit.
5) This financial update only relates to cash profit and therefore has depreciation excluded from the figures.

The above graph shows the first 4 months cash loss ($109,859) and then the stellar turnaround for the next 4 months with cash profit of $1,148,834. Golf membership & sponsorship have been reported separately to better reflect the Covid reality.

In respect to the financial turnaround, gaming and Job Keeper have not been the only key issues at play here.   Members would be well aware that services were reduced, member benefits were reduced, as well as food discounting. Wages have been significantly reduced as a consequence of decisions to not open the Bistro on Mondays, no Tuesday night parmi nights, no Friday night raffles and no breakfast service.
It is as a result of these actions, and with Jobkeeper support, that the Club has been able to stem the financial damage in the first 4 months and then dramatically turn around its financial performance since November 2020.
At 28 Feb 2021, the YTD cash profit is $1.322mill. Cash flow projections for the remaining 4 months of this financial year, indicate that conditional on no further lockdowns or disruption to gaming operations, the End of Year cash profit will push towards $2mill.    This would be an outstanding result in a year where in the first 4 months were loss making.
Given the strong financial performance of the Club and subsequent cash reserves, the Board took the decision in Jan 2021 to repay all the $300K that has been drawn on the Covid loan facility.
The Board also approved the funding and commencement of the two major golf course projects, being the concrete paths and upgrade works at 14 and 15 holes ($30K) and the $100K Short Game Facility.
The Board is currently considering a renovation of the Gaming Room to improve member experience via a major change to the layout of the gaming floor and improved social distancing. The renovation includes expanding the size of the room to facilitate this as well as the construction of a new outdoor sports bar, smokers’ room and break out area attached to the gaming room.
In respect to members services and other member promotions, these have been gradually reintroduced and will continue to do so, as a result of the gaming room becoming fully operational and other Covid restrictions being lifted.
In summary, the Club is presently on a financially sound footing and has recovered from the impact of Covid shutdowns & restrictions in a resounding way. O’Brien Real Estate Clark Warragul Classic Results

In the 9th Annual Warragul Classic, proudly sponsored by O’Briens Real Estate Clark, we saw 110 pairs compete over the two days for the coveted title.

In a unique format where Men’s, Ladies & Mixed Teams compete for the overall title in the 4BBB Stableford event, our winners with 87 stableford points on a countback were Lady Members Sharni Gentile and Barb Davidson, edging out Glenn Barnes and Mitch Clark and Peter Earles and Dean Armstrong.

Director of O’Brien’s Real Estate Clark, Peter Clark was on hand to present trophies to the winners. Thank you to all Members who participated over the two days and we hope you enjoyed your weekend.

MiScore App – Putting Now Available

In our latest MiScore app update, golfers can now record the number of putts made on each hole. This is an optional feature that users can choose to enable in the MiScore ‘Settings’.
When enabled, an additional putt entry screen will appear during score entry. At each hole, golfers will enter the total number of strokes then swipe across to record how many putts were taken.
Recording putts with the MiScore app is extremely useful for Stroke Medal events with an in-conjunction putting competition. For instance, this feature will be used on ladies monthly medal days.
