Vale ~ John McDonough

Vale ~ John McDonough

The Board wishes to advise Members of the unfortunate passing of long time Club Member John McDonough. After a battle with cancer he passed away on 2nd June 2021.
John was well known in the Gippsland community where he worked and established many friendships as the local barber in Drouin.
He was Captain of the Club in 1989-90 and again in 2003-2004. He was vice-captain before his second stint of Captain in 2003-04.
John was a long serving member of the Club since 1984, a passionate golfer and a great volunteer in many ways.  He was the organizer for the annual Christmas Ambrose which included organising sponsors and setting the course up for a great experience. He was also a great contributor to the Warragul Ladies Golf programme sponsoring a number of their events over the years.
Whilst John’s outstanding service is well known it was his character and personal attributes that he will be well remembered for. Always positive, encouraging, time for everyone, great company, these were the hallmarks that made John so widely respected and admired within the Club.
John was an outstanding member of this Club and it is members like John that make this Club the great Club that it is. He will be sadly missed by all.
The Club extends its heartfelt condolences to Heather, Scott, Sherrin and all the McDonough family.
John was aged 70.

Thank you,
Michael Hodge
Chief Executive Officer

The Logan Trophy – A 70 Year enduring partnership

The Logan Trophy – A 70 Year enduring partnership

The Club wishes to acknowledge the Logan family and its recent 70 year anniversary in support of the annual Logan Trophy golf event.
This memorial event was introduced in 1950 to commemorate Emily ‘Ma’ Logan (pictured below) for her thoughtfulness for the Warragul Golfers. Living adjacent to the golf course, Ms. Logan erected a refreshment stand and water tank with a tap and glasses to refresh golfers after the long, uphill par 5 to the 10th hole.
Emily’s daughters’ – Ann, Vic, & Ett Logan were keen golfers and contributors to the club, starting the yearly sponsorship of the Logan Trophy in 1950 after the death of their mother. Ann served as Lady President, Ett as Captain, and Vic won the Club Championship in 1934.
Their family are still very much family to the Warragul Country Club – with two of Emily’s grandchildren continuing the tradition of presenting the trophy annually to this day.
Attached is a tribute that takes a look back at the origins of the Logan trophy and its history, including some of the winners through the years.
